Professional pitcher to speak at Red Wolf softball club banquet Feb. 24

JONESBORO - Taylor Schlopy, a member of the Akron Racers of the National Professional Fast Pitch Softball League, is the featured speaker for the Arkansas State University Red Wolf Softball Club banquet, Friday, Feb. 24. The banquet begins at 6 p.m. at Cooper Alumni Center, 2600 Alumni Boulevard.

JONESBORO — Taylor Schlopy, a member of the Akron Racers of the National Professional Fast Pitch Softball League, is the featured speaker for the Arkansas State University Red Wolf Softball Club banquet, Friday, Feb. 24. The banquet begins at 6 p.m. at Cooper Alumni Center, 2600 Alumni Boulevard.

Tickets are available for $40 for an individual ticket, $120 for a family of four and a table for eight for $300 and may be purchased at the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce, 1709 East Nettleton, or contact Kinley Gatewood at 870-919-4930 and by e-mail at kinley.asusoftballclub@gmail.com.

“This banquet will be a good time for the entire family and those interested in learning more about the Red Wolf softball program,” said Gatewood, who serves as coach for the team. “Taylor will share her unique story that will show young women how her ambition of playing college softball came true and how they can too one day.”

Schlopy was a member of the USA Softball Team in 2009, and most recently played for the University of Georgia. She graduated, with honors, in 2011.

The softball weekend continues with Schlopy providing an opportunity for girls to participate in her camp, Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Southside Softball Complex on Stadium Boulevard. The clinic is geared to those wanting to improve their slapping, bunting and base running skills. The first session runs from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for ages 8-12, and girls aged 13-18 will meet from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per player or $60 per player with team registration.

ASU, currently 3-3 overall, will host Mid-Continent University in a doubleheader Saturday, March 10. The first game gets underway at 1 p.m. with the second game scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Southside Softball Complex
