JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s men’s rugby dropped a 59-15 decision in Mid-South Conference play to Lindenwood University Saturday evening at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

The match was the first road outing for A-State in over a year and the second with Lindenwood this season.

“Lindenwood is a quality team and they earned the win outright,” said Jake Mizell who began his service as the Red Wolves’ head coach only a week ago. “Our players gave them everything they had. The final outcome came down to who made less mistakes and who could profit off of those mistakes.”

Scoring for A-State included Emile Blanc and T.J. Van Rensburg who turned in successful tries. Mazvita Nyramarebu added a penalty kick and conversion to round out Arkansas State’s point total.

Mizell pointed out the strong performances by Van Rensburg, George Sharpe and David Ige.

“We are a young team that played in a very hostile environment,” Mizell continued “I was proud of the way that our players conducted themselves with honor and respect in the face of overwhelming circumstances. Those values are a foundation that we will build and grow from.”
