CLS program goals:

The overarching goal of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences programs at A-State is to provide educational experiences that produce clinical laboratory professionals with the theoretical knowledge and technical skills necessary to perform high quality clinical laboratory testing in accordance with nationally accepted standards.  

The specific goals of this program are:

  • For their respective levels of practice, produce AAS and BS clinical laboratory graduates who are proficient in the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical components of the primary disciplines of the laboratory:
    • Hematology/Hemostasis
    • Chemistry
    • Microbiology 
    • Urinalysis & Other Fluids
    • Immunology
    • Immunohematology
    • Lab Operations
  • Instill principles of professionalism, ethics, team-building, and interdisciplinary communication in all CLS students.
  • Apply laboratory safety standards and adhere to governmental regulations as applied to the practice of clinical laboratory science.
  • Produce graduates who are successful in passing the ASCP-BOC or AMT certification examination at their respective level.
  • Maintain CLS program accreditation with NAACLS.
