Recreational Facilities

Arkansas State University offers two recreational facilities: the Red W.O.L.F. Center and the Student Activity Center (SAC). Whether you’re looking to hit the gym, join a fitness class, or schedule practice for your club sport, both locations provide unique opportunities to stay active and connected on campus.

The Red W.O.L.F. Center

The Red W.O.L.F. Center is a state of the art facility opened in January 2010. Areas of the facility include climbing wall, gymnasiums, a running track, group fitness space, and a fitness center.

RED W.O.L.F. CENTER - FIRST FLOOR

Gymnasiums

The gymnasiums are made up of three (3) full size courts. The courts are regularly set as:

  • Court A: basketball
  • Court S: volleyball
  • Court U: badminton and 1/2 court basketball

We also offer the MAC Gymnasium, which was designed for alternative sports that are not offered in the main gymnasium. The court itself is contains a Plexiglas wall, an enclosed players box and scores table area, and built in goals. The MAC Gym is available for indoor soccer, floor hockey, and arena flag football.

Free Weight Area

The weight room contains a wide variety of equipment:

  • Freemotion selectorized units
  • HOIST selectorized units
  • Freemotion Plate Loaded units
  • Variety of free weight equipment
  • Olympic lifting platforms
  • Flat screen Televisions
  • Mirrored Walls

Cardiovascular Area

The cardio room features state of the art cardiovascular equipment. Equipped with six flat screen TV's with listening capabilities allows you to watch your favorite show while burning calories!

Our cardio equipment includes:

  • Precor Ellipticals

Campus Rec Offices

Administrative Offices for Campus Recreation, Intramurals and Club Sports are located on the first floor near the Front Desk.

 

RED W.O.L.F. CENTER - Second Floor

Indoor Track

We have a 3 lane, 1/10th of a mile indoor walking/running track. The indoor track is located on the second floor.

Group Fitness Studio

The group fitness studio can be used as one big room or as three smaller group fitness studios. This studio features a cushioned wood floor to reduce impact on joints.

Cycling Studio

The cycling studio is outfitted with 20 Keiser indoor cycling bikes. Here, you will be able enjoy indoor cycling classes in a private environment.

Red W.O.L.F. Center - Climbing Wall

Standing 31 feet tall with 600 square feet of climbing space, the Red W.O.L.F. Center’s climbing wall is the ultimate challenge for adventure seekers. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced climber, you’ll find routes that are both fun and challenging. Campus Recreation provides all the gear you need and trained staff to keep you safe while you climb.

To use the wall, check in at the Front Desk with your A-State ID, membership, or guest pass. You’ll sign a waiver and pick up your equipment. Harnesses and shoes are included at no extra cost.

Hours are posted inside the Red W.O.L.F. Center.

Climbing Wall Rules

  1. All Red WOLF Center, Campus Recreation, and Arkansas State University rules and policies are also applicable to the climbing wall.
  2. The Campus Recreation reserves the right to deny participation or ask patrons to leave the facility at any time for unsafe or inappropriate behavior, including failure to follow these rules.  Suspension from climbing, building, and/or Campus Recreation programs may occur.
  3. Participants using the climbing wall are climbing at their own risk.
  4. Climbing Wall patrons must sign a release waiver each year before utilizing Climbing Wall.
  5. Climbing Wall is only to be used when Climbing Wall Staff is present during posted hours.
  6. All participants are expected to follow all directions by Campus Recreation staff.
  7. Instruction is to be given by the Climbing Wall Staff only. Instruction is for indoor climbing use only and should not be substituted for outdoor climbing instruction.
  8. Participants must use proper safety equipment per the manufactures instructions when utilizing the climbing wall: Harnesses, shoes, ropes, carabineers, and belay devices are available for use at the wall.
  9. Only climbing wall staff and individuals who have passed the belay skills clinic within the last academic year are able to belay participants. 
  10. Participants must check the climber’s knot, harness and belay system prior to each climb. Figure-eight follow-through is the only tie-in knot allowed.
  11. Climbers are not allowed to climb above the top anchors.
  12. When bouldering, participant's hands cannot exceed the first row of lead climbing anchors.
  13. Do not pass under or over other climbers when bouldering or climbing.
  14. Swinging, climbing, and jumping on ropes is prohibited.
  15. Loose chalk is not permitted on the wall; participants may have chalk balls in a chalk bag.
  16. Do not climbing on red bracing, stairwell, brick wall, and other non-Climbing Wall areas.
  17. Grabbing lead climbing anchors during climbing is prohibited.  Lead climbing anchors are for carabiner attachment during lead climbing only.
  18. When waiting to climb, remain near the benches or outside the wall area if crowded.
  19. No sharing checked out climbing equipment is allowed.
  20. Use lockers available inside the Red WOLF Center to store all personal items.  Climber’s pockets must be empty while climbing. No storage of personal items is available in the climbing wall area.  Campus Recreation staff is not responsible for personal property.
  21. Appropriate attire is required: closed toe shoes (no sandals, bare feet or socks), shorts/pants, shirt covering the midriff during climbing, and limited jewelry.
  22. No cell phone, PDA, MP3 player, or headphones may be used while climbing or belaying. 

 

 


 

Student Activity Center (SAC)

The SAC is an 80,000-square-foot indoor facility designed for fun, fitness, and community. With a full football field, batting cages, space for club practices, and more, it’s the perfect spot for students to stay active. You can enjoy our open gym nights for kickball and other activities, or schedule your own event any time after 7 p.m by contacting Campus Recreation.

What the SAC has to offer

Student Benefits

  • Campus Intramurals can be held in this facility, and all students are welcome.
  • A-State clubs and organizations can practice activities.
  • Scheduled open gym nights for students to play kickball or any other activities that exceed the space of the Red W.O.L.F. Center.
  • Any campus recreational activity may be held in the facility.
  • Students can schedule activities any time after 7:00 p.m.
  • Full football field inside.
  • Includes nets for batting cages.
  • Large enough to share practice time with more than one group.
  • Athletes can schedule the facility from early in the mornings until 7:00 p.m.
  • Fully padded activity area and synthetic field protects students and provides comfortable running surface.

SAC Policies & Procedures

  1. The Student Activities Center is a controlled access facility. Only authorized members, with proper identification are allowed entry. One must enter and exit through the supervised areas.
  2. Responsibility for general supervision of the building rests with the staff members and supervisors directly in charge of the activity or area. Student workers/supervisor provide primary supervision for the facility and act with the full authority of a full-time Campus Recreation staff member. Harassment or disregard of the directions provided by the staff will result in disciplinary action.
  3. Any member attempting to help a non-member access the facility will have their privileges suspended and potentially revoked. This individual may also be reported to Student Affairs or UPD.
  4. When a student attempts to gain entry by use of another student’s ID, the staff member at work must confiscate the ID being used and attempt to get the name of the student using the ID. The student using the ID is not allowed entry and the owner of the ID will be tracked down to come get the card from a supervisor.
  5. Facility is for student use, other use must first be approved by Campus Recreation.
  6. No food, drink or gum is allowed in the facility.
  7. No spitting or intentionally creating other health hazards.
  8. Cell phones are not allowed to be placed in windows, on bleachers or benches or on the floor.
  9. Equipment in the facility must stay where it was originally; don’t move equipment around.
  10. Any contact activity must first be approved by Campus Recreation.
  11. Hitting or throwing balls into the ceiling or wall is not permitted.
  12. Golf is not permitted.
  13. Tents or other items may not be staked into the turf surface.
  14. Vehicles are prohibited.
  15. All outside heat sources are prohibited.
  16. Hanging on goals and nets are not permitted.
  17. Goals are not to be moved without the assistance of Rec Sport Staff.
  18. Use of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, or any illegal substance is not permitted.
  19. Pets other than service animals are not allowed in the facility.
  20. All students and guests are expected to abide by the decisions of the Campus Recreation Staff.
  21. Personal music is permitted for use, and expected to abide by the decision of staff:
    1. Music must not be profane or vulgar
    2. Must stop if space is occupied by multiple groups
  22. Campus Recreation is not responsible for loss or theft of property.
  23. Athletic attire must be worn at all times and must cover the torso.
  24. All accident/damages should be reported to a staff member immediately.
  25. Any individual(s) caught fighting will be expelled from the facility and turned over to Student Conduct.
  1. Eligibility to make a Reservation: Arkansas State University Departments and officially recognized student organizations may request use of the facility. Exceptions may be considered at the discretion of the Executive Director of Student Wellness/Student Affairs. These events will be considered based on available space, impact to existing university programs, and the scope and nature of events.
  2. All use outside the Arkansas State University Athletic Department must be coordinated through Arkansas State University Campus Recreation Department, and could incur a rental fee.
  3. Organized/group activities should be approved in advance by Campus Recreation.
  4. Priority of competing events will be given at the discretion of Arkansas State University Student Affairs Staff.
    1. Weather will be considered in competing situations with multiple groups who want to access in the facility.

The intent of this policy is to maintain respect for the rights and privacy of our members and guests by preventing video imaging of members and guests without their consent. The following must be completed in order to film or take picture in the SAC:

  1. Individuals wishing to take picture or use a video tape recorder in the SAC must have approval by a Campus Recreation Coordinator.
  2. Permission will be granted for video/audio taping of the general facility only; no university logo may be included in any picture/footage (unless as approved through the university or athletics).
  3. Members and/or guests involved in individual workouts such as, aerobic exercise/dance, cardiovascular, or club sport/intramural activities cannot be videotaped except as they appear in the background of a facility area. No member may be singled out for video tape purposes without their consent.
  4. Complaints from members regarding any aspect related to the production of video tape in the SAC will result in termination of the video tape process and forfeiture of the actual film.
  5. The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to have this videotape removed from all viewing formats should a representative of Campus Recreation determine that the standards of this agreement have not been met.
  1. Campus Recreation Staff members are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property.
  2. All lost and found items are to be turned in to the front desk of the Campus Recreation Facility with all information listed on the log sheet.
