Research Interests

Theory: Applying optimization methods and fuzzy inference systems (such as single/multi-objective optimization frameworks, bi-level algorithms, and scenario-based approaches) to address a wide range of challenges in modern power system operation, control, and planning

Application: Strengthening cyber-physical power systems against cyberattacks, particularly smart microgrids integrated with renewable energy sources (such as wind power and photovoltaic (PV)), in both grid-connected and off-grid configurations.

Biography

Dr. Ehsan Naderi received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) in May 2023. In August 2023, he joined Arkansas State University (A-State) in Jonesboro, Arkansas, as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering within the College of Engineering and Computer Science. As of May 2024, he also serves as the Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering.
Dr. Naderi’s research focuses on applying advanced machine learning techniques and optimization algorithms to enhance the security, efficiency, and resilience of smart grids. His work further investigates the seamless integration of smart power systems with transportation infrastructures, supporting the advancement of modern cyber-physical energy systems. In recognition of his achievements, he received both the college-wide and university-wide Faculty Excellence Awards in the Emerging Scholar category in February 2025 and April 2025, respectively.
During his doctoral studies at SIUC from 2020 to 2023, Dr. Naderi was awarded the prestigious Dissertation Research Fellowship by the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics. He also received multiple Best Paper Awards at IEEE conferences, including the 2021 International Conference on Smart Grid, the 2022 Artificial Intelligence–Internet of Things, and the 2022 International Conference on Green Energy and Smart Systems, among others.
Dr. Naderi serves as an Associate Editor for Evolutionary Intelligence (Springer Nature), an editorial board member for Scientific Reports (Springer Nature), and a Review Editor for Grid Efficiency (Frontiers in Smart Grids). He also actively contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific journals. In recognition of his service, he has received four Outstanding Reviewer Awards from leading journals, including the International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Computers & Operations Research, and Engineering Science and Technology – an International Journal.
