Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum to offer Multiple Events in October
PIGGOTT – The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) at Piggott
will host several events that may be of interest to attend in October.
The first event, hosted in conjunction with Pumpkin Hollow, is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
“’Cotton Fields to Pumpkin Patches’ will allow students to explore the rich agricultural
heritage of the Arkansas Delta,” said Shannon Williams, site director of HPMEC.
Registration is $150 and includes tours, farm experiences, materials and lunch.
“Students will learn how farming shaped daily life, the local economy, and the landscape,”
Williams added. “They will then go to Pumpkin Hollow to learn how crops grow and are
harvested. The tour will have farm animals, explore the natural environment, and experience
seasonal agriculture traditions.”
Education Freedom Account funds are accepted for this event.
A fall poetry workshop will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at HPMEC. Dr. Rob Lamm,
director of English education at A-State, will serve as mentor.
“The workshop will consist of writing short poems, composing collaboratively, and
using old-fashioned rhyme,” Williams said.
The workshop is for both beginners and experienced writers. Museum members can register
for $40, and non-members can register for $50. Registration includes lunch.
The last event at HPMEC in October will allow students to create a Halloween-themed
painting.
“Inspired by the fall season and historic landscape, students will create paintings
by upcycling traditional landscapes into fall scenes, among other activities,” continued
Williams.
This event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, and is for students
13 – 18 years old. Registration is $125 and includes tours, materials and lunch. Education
Freedom Accounts are accepted for this event.
