About Dr. Robert "Drew" Fleming
Robert “Drew” Fleming is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the College
of Engineering & Computer Science at Arkansas State University. He earned a Ph.D.
in Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2017, where he was a National Science
Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. At A-State, he is primarily responsible for
the upper-level mechanical design curriculum in the mechanical engineering program
and also led the development of the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing certificate
program. He currently serves as an associate editor for the ASME Journal of Tribology,
and has been the recipient of the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from
ORAU and the Edmond E. Bisson Award from STLE.

Summary
Dr. Fleming directs both the Advanced Functional Materials Laboratory (located in ABI) and the Experimental Nanomechanics Facility, which jointly conduct research on a broad portfolio of projects in the areas of surface science/engineering, computational materials science, and experimental nanomechanics. His research group has been funded by the DOE, NSF, NIH, and NASA.
