The term listed reflects when a student is making the payment, but the amount will be applied to the student's first semester in residence. The deposit must be completed 24 hours prior to beginning the housing application.

WILL I RECEIVE MY DEPOSIT BACK?

The deposit will be automatically applied to your student account by the 11th day of class during the first semester in which you live on campus.

WHERE DO I START?

First, you must be admitted to Arkansas State University before completing a housing application. If you are unsure of your admission status, visit AState.edu/myDen and log in with the email address and password used when applying to A-State.

APPLY FOR HOUSING

The 2027-2028 application for on-campus housing opens at 10 a.m. on November 2, 2026. It can be accessed within the Housing section of the Pack Portal. Log into the Pack Portal with your A-State email address and password.

AS A FIRST-YEAR STUDENT, CAN I LIVE AT HOME AND COMMUTE TO ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY?

First-year students who are 17 years of age or older at the start of the fall semester of their first year are required to live on campus. However, first-year students living at the legal residence of their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) within a 25-mile radius of campus, first-year students who are at least 21 years old prior to the academic term starting, or students with a medical or financial hardship may complete the Request for Waiver of Living on Campus in the myDen portal. Waiver requests, along with appropriate documentation, will be reviewed by a committee, and notification of a decision will be sent via A-State student email within fourteen (14) business days.

do i have to apply again as a returning student?

Yes, all students wishing to live on campus must complete a housing application each academic year.

what is grad guard, and is it required?

Grad Guard is a form of renters insurance available to A-State students through the housing application process. While renters insurance is not required, it is strongly encouraged.

Students who have begun the housing application will be contacted via their A-State student email during the Spring 2027 semester with instructions on how and when to select a room. Students are encouraged to have their top-three communities in mind prior to room selection. WHICH HALLS ARE AVAILABLE TO NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS, AND IS THAT PROCESS DIFFERENT?

what should i do to prepare for room selections?
  • Read all emails from University Housing THOROUGHLY!
  • Secure a roommate group if desired. Roommate groups are not required. See instructions for roommate groups below.
  • Mark your calendar for your selection date. Reminders and instructions will be emailed during the Spring 2027 semester.
  • Be ready with your top-three housing choices in various communities. You can review all the communities here.
CAN I TOUR THE BUILDING/ROOM I WILL BE LIVING IN?

While specific rooms are not typically available for viewing, Arkansas State University has “show” rooms in designated buildings. You can arrange to see one or more of these rooms by calling our office at 870-972-2042. Information and details for all communities may be found here.

what is a roommate group, and how do i set one up?
  • If you are planning to live with roommates/suitemates, a roommate grouping should be set up at least two business days prior to your room selection date. This feature is found within the housing application in the Pack Portal.
  • For returning students, the individual with the lowest number of completed credit hours should be the 'group leader,' which can be designated in the housing application. For incoming students, the individual with the earliest time slot should be the 'group leader.' Only one person may be the group leader in each grouping; you will not be able to search for roommates who have not started an application or who have named themselves as a group leader.
  • The group leader can name the roommate grouping and will be able to add members. Once all members are in the group, the leader must go into the portal to verify the group.
  • On your selection date, the group leader will assign all members of the group to open bed spaces. The portal will only show options for your group's size, so if you do not see options, there is no longer a room configuration that meets your group size. (Note: Most residence halls feature two- and four-person configurations. While there are a few three-person configurations in select halls, we encourage you to research the communities you are most interested in to see the configurations offered before the selection process begins.)
  • Students are able to join and leave roommate groups within the housing portal. Should you experience an issue joining or leaving a group, please email Housing@AState.edu.
  • Students are not required to be part of a roommate group prior to room selections.
what is the likelihood i'll get my first choice?

We encourage students to prepare their top-three housing locations during the selection process. The housing portal is like a live concert ticket selection, so when you are selecting, you will only see open rooms at that time. If your first choice is not visible, it is no longer available, and it is imperative that you move to your next choice quickly to view availability.

It is important to decide your housing priorities before the selection process begins. Many students decide based on room configurations, specific locations, proximity to campus facilities, etc.

Keep in mind... All on-campus housing locations have great amenities and provide opportunities to create community and find your pack!

can i reserve a single/private room?

Private rooms are assigned only if space is available. Students on the waiting list will be placed in order according to date of housing deposits. If space becomes available and a private room can be offered, you will be contacted via A-State student email by the Assignments Coordinator. Not all communities offer a single-room option -- see below for details on each community:

Students who may rely on a service animal or an emotional support animal (ESA) during their time on campus can explore the application steps, documentation guidelines, and important expectations here.

what is a housing contract?

A housing contract is a legally binding agreement between students and the University that outlines the terms of living on campus such as cost, move-in/move-out dates, code of conduct, etc.

when is my housing APPLICATION complete?

The housing contract is complete once it has been signed, a room has been selected, and a meal plan has been chosen. Meal plans will be available for selection during the summer (typically in July). The contract will show as incomplete until a meal plan is selected or declined (if applicable).

am i required to purchase a meal plan?

Meal plans are mandatory for all students who live in Kays Hall, University Hall, Arkansas Hall, North Park Quads, Living Learning Communities, and Sorority Housing. Commuter students, NYIT students, and those who live in Collegiate Park Apartments, Red Wolf Den Apartments, Pack Place, the Circle, and the Village have the option of purchasing a meal plan.

does my housing contract include parking?

No, campus parking permits are purchased separately. Permits are typically available to purchase in the Pack Portal beginning in July for the following year. Campus residents will have their residence hall automatically printed on their parking permit. Review the parking options and regulations at AState.edu/Parking.

does my housing contract include fall, winter & spring breaks?

Residence halls close during Fall, Winter, and Spring Breaks, while apartment locations remain open. Students may request an extended stay, and a fee will be assessed during these breaks. Details and instructions will be provided to students via A-State student email prior to each break.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LIVE ON CAMPUS?

Current room and board rates may be found here. Rates are determined by the ASU Board of Trustees during its June meeting each year and will be updated following that meeting.

can i cancel my contract?

Residents who meet the conditions for cancellation will be assessed prorated room and board costs based on his/her check-out date.

Fall Residents (Resident who takes occupancy of room during fall term of the academic year)

  • Residents who cancel on or after July 1 will forfeit their housing deposit and be responsible for the full academic year contract

Spring Only Residents (Resident who takes occupancy of a room after the fall term has ended)

  • Residents who cancel on or after January 2 will forfeit their housing deposit and be responsible for the full academic year contract

Prorated rent (when applicable) is determined by dividing the room rate by the number of days in the semester. This daily rate is then multiplied by the count of days from the official contract start date through the date when proper checkout procedures have been completed.

Cancellation request must be in writing. This can be done via email to Housing@AState.edu. Please refer to the A-State Housing Contract for complete details regarding the cancellation policy.

what are the rules of the residence halls?

The full list of on-campus housing policies and procedures can be found in the Student Handbook.

when is move-in day?

Move-In Day is scheduled for August 14, 2027. More information about Move-In Day can be found at AState.edu/MoveInDay.

what should i bring with me to live on campus?

We've put together a What (& What Not) to Pack list to help students prepare for moving into campus housing. We also suggest reviewing the Student Handbook for specific items allowed. Be sure to consult with your roommate about who will be bringing shared items.

ONCE I'VE SELECTED A ROOM, HOW DO I SEE WHO MY ROOMMATES/SUITEMATES ARE?

Students may review their roommate and/suitemates in the Housing section of the Pack Portal. Contact information for those individuals will also be listed.

SHOULD I CONTACT MY ROOMMATE/SUITEMATES BEFORE MOVE-IN?

Yes! You should reach out to your roommate and/or suitemates as soon as possible to begin making a plan for who is bringing what on Move-In Day.
