Freshman Admission Information

Automatic Admission Criteria
Freshman applicants meeting one of the following criteria are automatically admitted to A-State (minimum test scores still required):
- High School GPA: 3.00 cumulative (or GED equivalent)
- ACT/SAT: ACT super score of 19 or SAT combined super score of 990
- Class Rank: Top 20% of graduating class
Freshman students admitted under holistic review or with remediation needs will participate in our supportive Transition Studies Program.

Admission Appeals
If you do not meet the automatic criteria, you can appeal by submitting:
- Two letters of recommendation
- A statement of purpose addressing:
- Why A-State aligns with your educational goals
- Your strengths and growth plans as a student
- Non-academic experiences impacting your academic performance
Appeals must be submitted at least two weeks before semester classes begin.

Additional Student Types’ Criteria

If you are applying for courses and do not intend to enroll in a degree program, you may enroll in up to six hours per semester or three in summer, totaling a maximum of 12 semester hours. Non-degree courses generally do not count towards degree programs.
Non-Degree Admission Checklist:
- Completed Online Application

Caution: Non-degree students should not enroll in courses that are required in the general education program. Courses taken for non-degree credit are not acceptable toward a degree unless validated later by the student's meeting all conditions for admission to the university, including remediation requirements.
Non-degree students are required to meet the same course prerequisites as other students. Non-degree students are generally not eligible to participate in financial aid programs. Due to specific enrollment limitations, non-degree students may not register through the university's web registration system.
